All roads led to Unity Palace on 4 January 2013 as women from all over the Nation came out in their numbers to present New Year wishes to the First Lady Madam Chantal BIYA. The ceremony was bright, colourful and cheerful as always, beginning with wives of the Diplomatic Corps and later with the women who matter in Cameroon.
Madam Chantal stepped on stage promptly at 11 am today morning as she met with female Diplomats and wives of Diplomats accredited to Yaoundé. Smiles, handshaking and cordial and very friendly words were exchanged in an atmosphere of happiness at the beginning of a new year.
The First Lady then greeted the wives of national constituted bodies, beginning with the wife of the President of the National Assembly, who led the delegation of the legislature, followed by the wife of the Prime Minister, who equally led the delegation comprising wives and female members of Government. By the end of the day, over 2 000 women shook hands with the First Lady to wish her happy New Year and prosperity in 2013.
The ceremony then continued with a common meal that was graced with music. Many women displayed their dancing skill as they expressed their joy to once more be in Unity Palace and beside the Mother of the Nation.
