The Personal representative of the First Lady at the ceremony, Mr. Joseph LE, Assistant Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, presided over the closing ceremony of “Les Coccinelles” school complex at Unity Palace on Friday 27 June 2014 in the presence of several senior personalities, including the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, Mr. BIDOUNG MKPATT, and the Secretary of State for Basic Education, Mr. Benoit NDONG SOUMHET.
The highly colourful ceremony lasted almost three hours, with a blend of useful and entertaining activities. These included songs, rhymes, sketches, ballet and traditional dances. The school children thrilled the audience with their traditional attire and with such Cameroonian dances such as bikutsi. Popular artists such as Stanley ENOW, Thierry OLEMBA and the Kamguida group were also on hand to add flavour to the occasion.
The children’s results were then read out as they filed out to receive gifts handed out to them by the Assistant Director of the Civil Cabinet and the other dignitaries present at the ceremony.
The personal representative of the First Lady also went through all the classes of the school to have a first-hand view of the work the pupils did in the course of the year.
It should be noted that the school founded by the First Lady Mrs. Chantal BIYA scored 100% at the First School Leaving Certificate and 83% in the entrance examination into secondary school, while the children of the lower classes were all promoted to the next class.
