The President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA received in audience the outgoing British High Commissioner to Cameroon, BHARAT SURESH JOSHI, for high level discussions at Unity Palace on Friday 6 September 2013. Speaking to the press at the end of the discussions that lasted over one hour, the British Diplomat said that he came to bid farewell to the Head of State at the end of his stay in Cameroon, and that the discussions were related to an overview of the cooperation ties between Cameroon and the United Kingdom.
The High Commissioner noted that the two countries have strong historic ties and that the holding of the joint commission between the two countries starting in London tomorrow will go a long way to consolidate these cooperation ties.
Speaking on the democratisation process in Cameroon, BHARAT JOSHI said that in the course of his four years stay n Cameroon, he has witnessed a positive evolution in the democratic system of Cameroon, and especially with the biometric registration of voters, a job successfully carried out by Elections Cameroon. On the issue of governance, he commended the work that has been carried out to secure public funds, citing the efforts of the National Commission for the Fight Against Corruption (CONAC).
The High Commissioner said that he is particularly impressed by the hospitality of Cameroonians, as well as the beauty and diversity of the landscape of the country, of which he has several souvenirs.
During the audience, the Head of State presented a gift of a sculpture produced in Cameroon to the British Diplomat.
