Cameroonians from all walks of life turned out massively across the national territory on 20 May 2025 to commemorate the 53th anniversary of the National Day under the theme “Army and Nation united for a Cameroon turned towards peace and prosperity”.
A vibrant and flamboyant ceremony, chaired by President Paul BIYA, was organised at the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde. The occasion was highlighted by a breath-taking military and civilian march-past.
The troops were under the command of Air Force Brigadier General Eba Eba Bède Benoit, Commander of the Second Joint Military Region. Colonel Nnoko Ngide Divine, Commander of the East Gendarmerie Legion, assisted him in accomplishing this crucial mission.
A special delegation of the Nigerian army band was the guest of honour in this year’s military parade to celebrate the excellent and friendly ties between Yaounde and Abuja. The detachment was headed by Major Abdoumalic Souleman. Cameroon and Nigeria are part of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the fight against Boko Haram.
Their highly appreciated display was followed by a symphonic carousel from the Main Band of the Cameroon Army.
The second phase of the parade was characterised by patriotic chants by civilians comprised of pupils, students, and members of nine political parties represented at the National Assembly and the Senate. They held banners with slogans that magnified Cameroon’s peace, resilience, diversity, unity, and steadfast drive towards emergence.
President Paul BIYA and First Lady Chantal BIYA closed the day with a special banquet at Unity Palace in the presence of national and foreign dignitaries, and guests from diverse backgrounds.
