At the invitation of His Excellency BAN KI-MOON, Secretary General of the United Nations, His Excellency Paul BIYA, President of the Republic of Cameroon arrived New York in the United States of America on Sunday 18 September 2016, by mid-day, with his wife Madam Chantal BIYA, where he will attend the 71st Ordinary Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

President Paul BIYA and Madam Chantal BIYA were welcomed at the John Fitzgerald Kennedy International airport by Cameroon’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Henri ETOUNDI ESSOMBA and the Permanent Representative of Cameroon at the United Nations, TOMMO MONTHE and their wives respectively.

The Presidential Couple then left for the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in downtown New York, where a large crowd of the Cameroonian community in the USA, especially CPDM militants received them with warm and hearty cheers.

The highlight of the President’s visit to New York will be the highly awaited speech that he is expected to deliver on Thursday 22 September 2016, at the rostrum of the General Assembly of the United Nations during the general debates. The theme for this year is “The Sustainable Development Goals: a universal push to transform our world”.

Before that, the Head of State is scheduled to take part in other events organised on the side-lines of the General Assembly: the High level meeting of the Handling of the massive movement of Refugees and Migrants (19 September); the Summit on Refugees organised by President Barack OBAMA (20 September); the High level meeting on the African initiative for renewable energy, organised by France (20 September); High level meeting for the putting into action the Paris Agreement (21 September); US-Africa Business Forum (21 September); High level meeting on the resistance of Antimicrobials (21 September); Official banquet offered by the Secretary General of the United Nations (20 September); Reception offered by the President of the United States of America and Madam Michelle OBAMA (20 September); etc.

President Paul BIYA is also invited to another High level meeting on the humanitarian crisis in the Lake Chad Basin on 23 September 2016, and the High level plenary meeting on the commemoration and the promotion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Arms.

Cameroon is expected to present its vision, experience, position and proposals on all these subjects of great importance which concern our country and meets our preoccupations.

On the side-lines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA will have discussions with several world personalities.
