Mrs Chantal BIYA joined the staff, patients, and children delivered at the Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery and Human Reproductive Teaching Hospital (CHRACERH) on Tuesday 24 December 2024 to celebrate a record 504 births via in vitro fertilisation.

This huge milestone is slightly above the target of 500 babies set upon the creation of the institution, which has revolutionised the mother and child healthcare system in Cameroon.

Families faced with childbearing difficulties and the psychological stress associated with this phenomenon now have a glimmer of hope as they can find advanced solutions at CHRACERH.

In his welcome speech, Professor Jean-Marie Kasia, the Director General of CHRACERH lauded the selfless contribution of President Paul BIYA and First Lady Chantal BIYA who spared no effort in the realisation of the project. He said the health unit has attained international recognition and there are plans to extend its facilities to tackle the treatment of cancers affecting women in Cameroon.

The UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion, and UNAIDS Special Ambassador opened the last phase with the distribution of gifts to over 1,000 children, including children delivered at CHRACERH and the kids of the staff.
