Within the framework of the “Special Youth Plan” which he announced on 10 February 2016, the President of the Republic put more vigour into the digital economy at the level of universities in favour of the youth.
This futuristic initiative involves the giving of 500 000 computers to university students of the public and private sectors.
President Paul BIYA is thereby responding, with promptitude, to the plea from the Association of Cameroon university students, made at the Yaoundé Conference Centre through the personal representative of the Head of State (The Minister, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic), on 13 February 2013, relating to the necessity to improve the digital environment in the universities.
The gift is a manifestation of the Presidential will, through “e-national higher education”, to improve on the digital economy and make it a reality. It is made up of the following:
- The gift of a portable computer to each student of a public or private university in Cameroon.
- The construction of nine computer development centres, that is, one for each of the eight state universities and one for the Cameroon-Congo interstate University of Sangmelima.
- Systematic “e-learning” in the universities;
- The interconnection of all the universities.
