In keeping with his desire to accelerate the decentralisation process in Cameroon, the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA signed today Decree N°. 2020/547 of 7 September 2020 convening electors for the election of Regional Councillors, to take place in headquarters of all Divisions on Sunday 6 December 2020.
The Regional Councils will play a major part in the decentralisation process, as the deciding organ between the State and the local councils. The Government, following the directives of the Head of State, will be able to implement the special status and other recommendations made during the Major National Dialogue for the speedy return to normalcy in the restive North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
The Head of State’s action is also an opportunity that is given to more Cameroonians to participate in the running of the affairs of our fatherland. With the progressive devolution of more powers, resources and responsibilities to the Regions and Councils, the Government will have more time to concentrate on the major opportunities that are earmarked to take the country to economic emergence by 2035.
