The Head of State sent a message of condolence to the Vatican on 21 April 2025 following the demise of Pope Francis.
President Paul BIYA’s letter was addressed to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals. He expressed profound grief and acknowledged the immense loss to the Roman Catholic Church and the world.
The Head of State equally published a special message on his social media handles stating that "Pope Francis's pontificate was marked by his humble leadership and firm commitment to helping the needy and underprivileged in society".
