Members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Yaounde and the constituted national bodies presented New Year wishes to the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA on Thursday 8 January 2015 at Unity Palace.
The Heads of Mission accredited to Yaounde opened the way for New Year wishes to the Head of State when the dean, Ambassador MILAT TOUFIK of Algerian presented a brief address on their behalf, in which he promised the continued support of the international community to Cameroon in their economic development and the fight against terrorist insurgents. He praised the dynamism of a country which he qualified as peaceful and united, before wishing more prosperity for Cameroon and for the Head of State and his family.
In response, the President of the Republic continued his call for greater solidarity and understanding in the world full of many unresolved conflicts. He lambasted the evil hands that want to install a chaotic Islamic state in the Sahel region of Africa from the Atlantic coast to the Indian Ocean. The Head of State promised the total commitment of Cameroon to a world free of fear and intimidation, and saluted the contribution of several countries helping Cameroon in this venture, notably the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, China and Russia.
President Paul BIYA and the diplomats later exchanged more intimate moments as they shared refreshments at the end of the ceremony.
The New Year wishes to the national bodies came immediately afterwards, beginning with the bureaux of the Senate and the National Assembly. Led by the President of the Senate Marcel NIAT NJIFENJI and the Speaker of the National Assembly respectively, then the Government and subsequently all the important bodies that attend the yearly ceremony.
President Paul BIYA was flanked by the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic Ferdinand NGOH NGOH and the Director of the Civil Cabinet Martin BELINGA EBOUTOU.
