A special gift of the Presidential Couple was received in Maroua
Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 April 2015, the Presidential Couple, through the Secretary of State for Defence in Charge of War Veterans and Victims, channelled and important consignment of food destined for the Defence and Security Forces who are waging war against the terrorist group Boko Haram in the Far North Region.
-The special gift was received on arrival by the Governor Midjiyawa Bakari in the presence of Colonel Jacob Kodji, Commander of the Fourth Inter-army Region.
-The important consignment included meat, fresh fish, fruits and vegetables, and other food items which were to be added to their normal food items.
-The envoy of the Head of State was also the bearer of a message of encouragement and congratulations to the Defence and Security Forces for the ceaseless efforts to stop the atrocities caused by Boko Haram on our compatriots.
-While handing over the gifts of the Presidential Couple to the Governor, president of the committee to manage gifts, Koumpa Issa recalled the need for transparency in the management of all gifts.
-As concerns the required transparency in the managing of the “freewill donation” of Cameroonians for the soldiers and civilian victims of the war (especially gifts in cash), the Head of State has instructed the Minister of Finance to open in the State Treasury Accounts, a special account entitled “People’s Contribution, Fight against Boko Haram”, under number 450 4137.
-The Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic in Charge of Defence will submit for the high approval of the Head of State all proposals in relation to their expenditure.
-In short, the President of the Republic H.E. Paul BIYA and his wife are very attentive to what is happening at the war front and this act, which comes after several others, illustrates the constant concern of the Head of State, Chief of the Armed Forces vis-à-vis the soldiers and also the population that are victims of the war.
