The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience to the pioneer President of the Senate, Marcel NIAT NJIFENJI on Tuesday 18 June 2013 at Unity Palace.

The first official meeting between the President of the Republic and the newly elected President of Cameroon’s maiden upper house of Parliament, Senator Marcel NIAT NJIFENJI, took place this morning at Unity Palace. The audience that lasted over one hour marked the initial discussions between the President Paul BIYA and the second personality of the country.

Speaking to the press immediately afterwards, Senator Marcel NIAT NJIFENJI revealed that he came to brief the Head of State on the steps that are ongoing to set up the institutions of the Senate. The President of the Senate reassured the press that they are going to work in a complementary manner with the National Assembly to ensure that the laws of the land are well refined. In this wise, he continued, the Senate will play its role fully, not only in enacting proper legislation, but also in the supervision of Government activities.

Senator Marcel NIAT NJIFENJI reminded all those who were surprised by his election to the high position that his being discreet was not to be mistaken for his being absent, as he simply adopted a strategy to do his political work in discretion.
