Following the historic Greentree Agreement between Cameroon and Nigeria, the Bakassi peninsula is from today 14 August 2013 an integral part of the country as Cameroon will henceforth exercise full sovereignty over the territory.
The landmark resolution of the territorial conflict between Cameroon and Nigeria was taken on 12 June 2006 in Greentree, a suburb of New York in the United States of America, by the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA and his Nigerian counterpart, His Excellency OLUSEGUN OBASANJO.
