Members of the diplomatic corps and constituted state bodies presented New Year wishes to the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA during two colourful ceremonies at Unity Palace on Thursday 9 January 2014.

The diplomatic corps took the first turn at mid-day. Taking the floor on behalf of his colleagues, the Ambassador of Chad to Cameroon, in his capacity as dean of the diplomats accredited to Yaoundé, praised the political wisdom of the Head of State and the maturity of the Cameroonian people who made 2013 a year of great successes. He promised that international community will always accompany Cameroon in its development efforts.

In his response, President Paul BIYA hailed the contribution of the friendly nations and organisations that have stood by us to ensure that we preserve our peace and continue our efforts to develop our country. The Head of State reiterated his call for greater solidarity in international affairs as the more privileged will always have to give a supportive hand to the less fortunate nations. President Paul BIYA posited that the problems of insecurity and conflicts that are affecting Africa cannot be solved without the support of the world powers.

New Year wishes from the national institutions were carried out in the traditional order without any recourse to speeches. Invitees filed past to have a handshake with the Head of State and to wish him a happy and prosperous 2014.
