In the afternoon of 15 November 2013, the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA officially inaugurated the Ndogpassi natural gas plant in Douala, describing energy as the weapon that will enable Cameroon to win the battle of development. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of the First Lady Madam Chantal BIYA, whose social outreach was highly appreciated by various speakers at the occasion. Also on hand to support the Head of State were the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly and several members of Government.
The Government Delegate to the Douala City Council gave the welcome speech, on behalf of the municipal authorities and the population of the Littoral Region. Mr. Fritz NTONE NTONE had mostly words of thanks to the Head of State for several gifts to the city.
For his part, the Minister of Water and Energy highlighted the place of choice given to the energy sector in the “Greater Accomplishments” policy by the Head of State with the launching of four major energy projects in the past two years.
President Paul BIYA was pleased to note that the Rodeo Development Limited had invested up to fifty billion FCFA into the project. This was a mark of confidence by the British company that carried out the project in partnership with the National Hydrocarbons Company.
The Head of State then proceeded to cut the ribbon and to turn on the gas to flow and thereby officially commissioning the natural gas plant.
In the course of the ceremony, a group of traditional chiefs of the Bassa people handed special gifts to the Head of State, as a sign of their appreciation for the project and their support for his policy of “Greater Accomplishments”.
