Cameroon's Head of State is presently in the capital of the United States of America to attend the second edition of the U.S. - Africa Summit on the invitation of U.S. President Joe BIDEN.
President Paul BIYA, accompanied by First Lady Chantal BIYA, arrived at the Joint Base Andrews on 10 December 2022 around 5:30 p.m local time. He was welcomed at the airport by Cameroon's Ambassador to the U.S. - Henri Etoundi Essomba.
His Excellency Paul BIYA and his delegation were immediately escorted to Conrad Hotel Washington D.C. where they received a warm welcome and great hospitality from a cheering crowd of U.S-based Cameroonians and some traditional dance groups.
The Presidential Couple were presented with a bouquet of flowers at the hotel lobby. They were greeted by Joseph Beti Assomo, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations, Mengot Victor Arrey-Nkongho, Minister of Special Duties at the Presidency of the Republic, and staff of Cameroon's embassy in Washington D.C.
Many African Heads of State, business leaders, and civil society experts are expected to take part in the summit, which is scheduled for 13-15 December 2022.
Key issues to be discussed during the event include: economic engagement; peace, security and governance; democracy and human rights; global health; food security; climate change; diaspora engagement; education and youth leadership.
