On the invitation of the French President François HOLLANDE, the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA, who was accompanied by the First Lady Madam Chantal BIYA, left Yaoundé for the French capital on Friday 16th May 2014 to attend a special summit on the security situation in neighbouring Nigeria. The summit will also be attended by the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, as well as the Presidents of Chad and Niger.

The attention of the world has been focused on the security situation in Nigeria where Boko Haram insurgents have carried out several acts of violence. The recent kidnapping of over 200 girls from a boarding institution in Chibok, a locality in the Northern state of Borno, has resulted in a global outcry against the Islamic extremist group and their horrendous activities.

The Nigerian Government has accepted international assistance to combat the insurgents, notably from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Israel and China. Many world personalities, including Michelle OBAMA and Gracia MANDELA have joined the global campaign calling for the release of the kidnapped school girls.

President Paul BIYA and his peers will examine ways to solve the problem of this insurgency that is rapidly spilling out into Cameroon and the other neighbouring countries. His firm and constant commitment to peace and security is once more in play, as the Head of State did not hesitate one moment to join the others in Paris for talks that could go a long way to stop the terrorist activities that have become a thorn in our flesh.
