First Lady Mrs Chantal BIYA has met with some spouses of the heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organisations in Cameroon. This was during an afternoon tea party organised at the East Wing of the Unity Palace on 23 June 2021.
This two-hour gathering was an opportunity to commune and exchange on important societal issues and humanitarian actions that were slowed down because of the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which imposed a change of attitudes and lifestyles across the globe – especially the social distancing and lockdown measures that have greatly reduced human contacts. An evaluation of Cameroon’s contribution to counter the deadly disease and the necessity for women to strengthen their collective efforts in this battle were also on the agenda.
The reunion marks a rekindling of the strong sense of friendship among the women who are members of the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC). It equally sends a strong message to the population to adapt their lifestyles to the current mode; the respect of safety measures and the preservation of the strong bonds that existed in the past.
Mrs Chantal BIYA was assisted throughout the event by the spouses of her husband’s close collaborators.
