On the instructions of the Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA, the Government has made available the sum of over 5 billion Francs CFA for the construction of classrooms, wells toilets and the making of benches and other school furniture for schools in the Far North Region. The gesture is to provide a more suitable environment for pupils and students in schools which have been very heavily affected by the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgents. Many schools in this region have experienced an unusual swelling in their population as children from areas closer to the border with Nigeria flee the fighting caused by the terrorist organisation.
Reacting to the laudable Presidential initiative, the Governor of the Far North Region, MIDJIYAWA BAKARI announced that the work on these projects will take a maximum of 40 days to be completed. He said that 106 localities have been identified to benefit from the projects which will be carried out by people selected from the business community in Maroua.
