The President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience to the French Defence Minister Jean-Yves LE DRIAN on 14 august 2014 at the Hotel Meurice in Paris.
Nothing filtered out on their discussions, but one can imagine that security issues were certainly of great concern to the two personalities. The prevailing insecurity in the Far North Region of Cameroon where the Boko Haram insurgents have become very active is a very topical issue. The two countries are also concerned about the conflict in the Central African Republic where the French have launched the “Barkane” operation in an effort to stabilise the country, just as the “Serval” operation in the Sahel region, which is geared of cleansing Mali of islamist terrorists.
It should be recalled that President Paul BIYA granted audience to Jean-Yves LE DRIAN on 6 December 2013 on the side-lines of the Elysee summit on security in Africa.
