The President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, granted two separate audiences at Unity Palace on 16 January 2024.
Dr Alastair McPhail, envoy for the UK-African Investment Summit 2024, and special emissary of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, opened the day with a 40-minute discussion with the Head of State.
The British Diplomat told reporters that they exchanged on subjects of common interest that could be addressed during the economic summit that is scheduled for April in London. It is aimed at boosting trade and investment between both countries – with the participation of diaspora communities.
“For us, it is about modern partnerships of mutual benefit based on respect,” he said.
Dr Alastair McPhail equally expressed his desire for Cameroon to be represented at the highest level.
The second guest of the day was Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Francophone Affairs of the Central African Republic. She conveyed best wishes for success and prosperity from President Faustin-Archange Touadera to his Cameroonian counterpart and the peace-loving people of Cameroon in 2024.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Sylvie Baïpo-Temon said the Central African leader equally sent a message of gratitude to President Paul BIYA for Cameroon’s assistance that facilitated the transportation of a special donation – a consignment of cereals – from the Russian Federation to Bangui.
It was also an occasion for President Paul BIYA to be briefed on the current state of affairs in the neighbouring country and the evolution of issues related to the stability and development of the sub-region.
