The President of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Paul BIYA, and H.E. General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Transition and President of the Gabonese Republic have reached a consensus to open a new, dynamic, and rosy diplomatic chapter aimed at consolidating the long-lasting and excellent bilateral relations that exist between the friendly neighbouring countries.

This was the major outcome of the first-ever meeting between both Heads of State on 6 December 2023 at Unity Palace, the high point of the new Gabonese leader’s 24-hour visit to Cameroon, upon the gracious and fraternal invitation of President Paul BIYA.

Yaounde and Libreville are strongly committed, like in the past decades, to seeking and finding common ground on many bilateral and multilateral subjects of mutual interests. Thus, President Paul BIYA and his esteemed guest dissected key issues such as the strengthening of socio-economic cooperation, measures to boost trade, efforts to reinforce trans-border and regional security, and the enhancement of sub-regional integration through the restructuring of bodies like the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

The harmonious future and stability of the sub-region are of prime importance to President Paul BIYA’s vision for the development and prosperity of the zone. Thus, the warm invitation of H.E. General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to Yaounde and the red-carpet reception accorded him, symbolises Cameroon’s unwavering desire, without interference, to work collectively for the peaceful return of constitutional order in Libreville. The transition president of Gabon certainly shares the same view and highly appreciates the Cameroonian leader’s clear discernment, unique sense of solidarity, and active role in the normalisation process.

H.E. General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema equally shared a moment of conviviality, during his stopover at Hilton Hotel, with the Gabonese community residing serenely in Cameroon – the land of legendary hospitality.
