The reinforcement of the longstanding and excellent cooperation ties that exist between Cameroon and Chad, and the necessity to collectively tackle issues of common interest within the framework of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), were at the centre of discussions between President Paul BIYA and Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar, Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation of the Republic of Chad on 19 January 2024.
This was during a 40-minute audience granted by the Head of State at Unity Palace to the special envoy of the President of Chad, His Excellency General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.
The Chadian emissary was bearer of a special message from N’Djamena.
Speaking to the press after the audience, Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar thanked President Paul BIYA for his legendary hospitality. He disclosed that Chad’s Head of State sent a fraternal message to his Cameroonian counterpart, which touched on some elements to bolster the growth of sub-regional cooperation.
The Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation of the Republic of Chad was accompanied by Abbas Mahamat Tolli, Governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). It was equally an opportunity to present the reforms and results recorded by the latter throughout his seven-year mandate that rounds off in a couple of weeks.
