The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA received in audience this Thursday 13 November 2014 the outgoing Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon H.E. Benoit-Pierre LARAMEE. The audience at Unity Palace was to bid farewell to the Canadian diplomat whose stay in Cameroon had come to an end.
Speaking to reporter shortly after discussions that lasted nearly one hour, Benoit-Pierre LARAMEE said that he came to bid farewell to President Paul BIYA and to review with him the very friendly relations between Cameroon and Canada. He was optimistic that these relations will be amplified in the coming years.
The High Commissioner saw economic cooperation between the two countries as one of the main areas of growth, given that the two countries signed an agreement in March 2014 to mutually protect investments in Cameroon and Canada. Canadian businesses, he continued, are highly interested in the sectors of education and infrastructure and he was looking forward to see the agreement result into contracts.
On the security front, the Canadian Diplomat said that Cameroon and Canada were working together in several international institutions and that his country has been taking steps to reinforce peace and security, beginning with their homeland which has also been a target of terrorist attacks.
President Paul BIYA handed over a souvenir present to the Canadian High Commissioner at the end of their discussions.
