The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA had discussions on Tuesday 15 September 2015 with the outgoing Ambassador of Turkey to Cameroon, Omer Faruk DOGAN. The two personalities made an overview of the cooperation ties between Cameroon and Turkey, while laying down the foundation for these relations to be reinforced for the good of the people of the two countries.
Speaking to the press at the end of the audience that lasted over thirty minutes, Omer Faruk DOGAN said that he expressed to President Paul BIYA his deep pleasure for the opportunity to serve in Cameroon and the privilege to work with Cameroonians as they strive to improve their living conditions. He recalled the historic visit of President Paul BIYA to Turkey in March 2013, calling it an important milestone that boosted the friendly and cooperation ties between Ankara and Yaoundé.
The Ambassador revealed that the objectives of his mission were to facilitate life and to accompany the country on its way to emergence. Omer Faruk DOGAN pointed out that success had been achieved in the areas of travel and affordable seeds for farmers. He was very optimistic that better days are still to come as there are many other major projects to be carried out with Turkish cooperation in the domains of energy and social lodging. He also highlighted infrastructure projects related to the hosting of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2019 by Cameroon.
The Turkish Ambassador promised that his country will stand by Cameroon in the fight against terrorism and called for the safeguarding of religious tolerance in Cameroon, which is one of the most important tenets of our society.
The Head of State and the Turkish Ambassador exchanged gifts at the end of the audience. It should be recalled that Ambassador Omer Faruk DOGAN took up duties in 2012 as the Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon and has been a very dynamic member of the diplomatic corps in Yaoundé for the past three years.
