The President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA has granted an audience to the U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Michael Stephen Hoza. The Head of State and his guest met at the Unity Palace on Thursday 27 April 2017.

Speaking to reporters after the audience, Ambassador Hoza said discussions centred on three key areas of Cameroon – U.S. bilateral cooperation. These include: health care assistance; the fight against Boko Haram and security in the Gulf of Guinea; and the search for peaceful solutions and dialogue in Cameroon.

The U.S. diplomat said they observed that health care assistance was a critical priority; supporting maternal health care and efforts against HIV/AIDS, malaria, and pandemic health threats like Ebola. He revealed that the U.S. “increased its annual support from $48 million in 2014 to over $260 million today in health related projects implemented in partnership with Cameroonians, for Cameroonians.”

Reacting on the installation of members of the National Commission on Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, which occurred on the same day, Ambassador Hoza wished that it should be used to facilitate Cameroon’s path toward a harmonious country that is completely and fully bilingual.
