The President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA and the outgoing United States Ambassador to Cameroon Robert P. JACKSON held discussions at Unity Palace on Thursday 03 October 2013. The audience that lasted over one hour came at the end of the three years stay of Robert P. JACKSON in Cameroon.
Speaking to the press at the end of their discussions, the US diplomat indicated that they made an overview of the relations between the two countries and the major world issues at the moment, such as the civil war in Syria and the effort of the international community to dismantle the chemical weapons in that country.
The American Ambassador praised the conduct of the twin elections of 30 September 2013, stating that there were really well organised and that Elecam did a very good job in the organisation of the elections. He talked particularly of the biometric registration which greatly improved the transparency of the poll and the orderly and calm manner in which the electors participated in the election.
Robert JACKSON said that his Government was fully in support of Cameroon’s fight against corruption. He praised President Paul BIYA for the advances in governance that have been made by Cameroon and said that he is optimistic that the Head of State will squarely face the economic challenges in the coming years.
The President of the Republic and Robert P. JACKSON exchanged gifts at the end of the audience.
