The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience on 30 October 2013 to the Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, Omer FARUK DOGAN, who was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Turkish Mass Housing Institution, Mr. SUMMA.

Speaking to the press at the end of the audience that lasted over one hour, Omer FARUK DOGAN indicated that he used the occasion to transmit the congratulations of the Turkish President Abdullah GÜL and the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN for the successful legislative and municipal elections of 30 September 2013. He was happy that Cameroon organised credible elections in a calm and serene atmosphere.

The Turkish Ambassador said that the audience was coming after the historic visit of President Paul BIYA to Turkey in March 2013. This visit enabled the two countries to lay the foundation for mutually beneficial cooperation.

The first fruit of this new cooperation is in the domain of education. A professional training centre has been built in Maroua to train professionals in the energy, equipment maintenance, refrigeration and wood works. According to Omer FARUK DOGAN, the new establishment that is built on a surface area of 4000 m2, is the first phase of a project that will see the construction of an institution of higher learning in Yaoundé, for the training of trainers. The Maroua campus, he said, will soon be inaugurated in the presence of the Vice-prime Minister of Turkey.

The Turkish Ambassador said there were bright prospects in the domain of infrastructure. He cited the energy sector where many projects are under study as one of the priority interests of Turkish investors.
