The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience on Tuesday 25 February 2014 to Nikolay RATSIBORINSKIY, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cameroon. Their discussions lasted over one hour during which they made a wide review of relations between the two countries.
Speaking to the press at the end of the audience, the Russian Ambassador said that he had taken the opportunity of the audience to extent the congratulations of the Russian Government to Cameroon for the successful celebration of the reunification of Cameroon that took place on 2Oth February 2014. Nikolay RATSIBORINSKIY revealed that this date was coincidentally the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cameroon and Russian.
The Russian Diplomat also made known the interest of his country in the major infrastructural projects that are to be carried out in Cameroon. Russian companies and concerns are willing to take part in realising some of these projects.
Finally, Nikolay RATSIBORINSKIY said that following the visit of the President of the World Chess Federation, Mr. Kirsan ILYUMZHINOV to Cameroon last year, it is possible that the world championship in this sports discipline will be held in Yaoundé in 2017. It was therefore imperative for the most senior official of the country to be sensitised on the subject so as to have his maximum support.
